Description of this clan building

Clan Forts protect the Clan Capital and expand the clan territory. Clan Members can send their troops to the Forts to protect them from attacks, while other players can attack the Forts. Note that attacks on Clan Forts are often prohibited / limited by Kingdoms' ROE and by the IKFPA.

Each clan can have a maximum of 4 Forts, but they need to be unlocked one by one through Clan Research.

Forts are also required to activate Clan Bonuses, because the number of active bonuses is limited by the number of Forts.

Fighting

Attacking the Fort

Attacks on Forts work similar to attacks on other players' cities. After clicking on a foreign Fort, you can decide whether you want to scout or attack the Fort.

You can send your hero, all 3 captains and your dragon together on the attack.

Note that all members of the Clan you are attacking receive the attack report in their journal.

Defending the Fort

You can send your troops there as reinforcement to the Fort to protect it. To do so, click on the Fort, then on Army (on PC, then on Reinforcement). Then you can select the troops you want to send. You can send your hero, all 3 captains and your dragon to the Fort.

When the troops arrive, they will automatically defend the Fort if it is attacked.

Your troops will fight together with the troops from other clan members that sent reinforcement, as well as the Forts basic defense: Ballistae, Boiling Oil & Fortifications.

The strength of the basic defense depends on your Forts level as well as the Clan Researches for Fortifications.

Capital protection and expanding territory

Your Clan Capital can only be attacked 20 hours after your last Fort has been defeated (Conflagration status, see below). It is therefore important to understand the statuses of the Forts and try to defend them from attacks.

Status of the Fort

  • Intact
    • Normal status, no damage from any attacks
  • Damaged
    • The Fort is partially damaged after an attack (some of the basic defense is destroyed). The Clan Leader and the Superiors can immediately repair the Fort. This costs them city building resources lumber, iron & stone and the costs depend on the level of the Fort and the damage dealt.
  • Conflagration
    • The Fort has been defeated and is burning. It can't be repaired for 40 hours and during that time it can't protect your Clan Capital. If it is not repaired within 7 days, the Fort will be destroyed. You can not demolish the Fort as long as it is in the Conflagration status.

Strategic protection

Your Clan Capital gets a shield for 20 hours after the last Fort has been defeated and your Forts can be repaired 40 hours after they were defeated. This gives the attacker 20 hours where your Clan Capital is not protected by any Fort or shield. But your clan is still able to place new Forts, as long as not all unlocked Forts are already build. A lot of clans therefore do not build the last Fort to keep it as a strategic reserve, called Pocket Fort.

The steps for optimised protection:

  1. Have an allied clan begin marching (attacking) towards one of your burning forts shortly before the Capital's shield expires, but do not let them arrive there yet.
  2. Before the shield drops, start constructing the pocket fort (next to your capital where it is cheapest to build)
  3. Finish the construction immediately after the shield expires.
  4. Recharge the Capital’s shield, this can be done in the Capital's menu (costs food)
  5. Demolish the pocket fort.
  6. Attack the burning fort (march from step 1), which will cause the Capital’s shield to activate again as it was recharged and one of your Forts has been defeated (again).

You then have another 20 hours shield on your Capital and are able to repair your Forts 20 hours later at the same time.

Territory expansion

Clan Forts expand the Clan Territory in a circle around them. The radius by which they expand territory is the same as that of your Clan Capital and depends on your Clans' help points.

Upgrading the Fort will not add more clan territory around it.

So if a Fort is placed at the border of the current territory, it will expand it much more than if they are placed close to your Clan Capital as then their expansion radiuses are overlapping.

How to build it

To place a Fort, you must be Clan Leader or Superior. You can then click on any tile, select build and scroll down in the list of available buildings. If you don't have 4 Forts already but can't build another one, check your clan research as they must be unlocked one after one (in the Clan Territories research tree).

Building the Fort costs city building materials lumber, iron and stone.

How much it costs depends on the distance of this Fort to your Clan Capital. The closer it is to the Capital the cheaper it is, and the costs exponentially rise the further it is placed away.

Where to place it

Clan Forts should be placed strategically as their main purpose is to expand your Clan Territory. While placing them you need to consider the area that it will add to your territory, the exponentially rising building costs (see above) and the tile bonus where it is placed. Tile bonuses on Fortifications also apply to Forts. The highest bonus is 90% and is usually found on mountains.

As for all clan buildings, it can only be placed within the clan area.
